(2) Certain Latin suffixes also became current in Greek and were added to Greek words. This is limited in the NT to proper names, especially ethnic names: πλοῖον Ἀλεξανδρῖνον [PLOION ALECANDRINON] A 27:6, 28:11 (but Ἀλεξανδρεύς [ALECANDREUS] 6:9, 18:24), Ἡρῳδ-ιανοί [hHRWiD-IANOI] (Mt, Mk), Χριστ-ιανός [XRISTIANOS] (Acts, 1 P), Φιλιππήσιοι [FILIPPHSIOI] (Ph).

Subject: [B-Greek] Latin suffix?
Dear friends,
Could you tell me if it is true that the suffix AN in the word CRISTIANOS in Acts 11:26 is Latin, and if yes, why the Latin suffix is used in a Greek word?
Thanks,
Dmitriy Reznik
