I don't believe anyone has mentioned Simon Sling's "Oral Strategies in
the Language of Herodotus" in Egbert J. Bakker, Irene J. F. de Jong, and
Hans van Wees, Brill's Companion to Herodotus (Leiden: Brill, 2002).
This is a nice introduction to discourse analysis in Herodotus, although
it is pertinent to note that the principles of discourse analysis fail
to explain adequately all of Herodotus' use of language, and I would
also doubt discourse analysis would adequately explain other Greek texts
in their entirety. But it is a useful tool.

Yours,
Elliot Poe
