I recall seeing a sign near the elevator in my hotel in Athens with 
an arrow pointing toward the elevator, ANUYWTHR. Both ANUYOW and 
hUYOW are given in modern Greek dictionaries as "to raise" or "to 
elevate." It seems to me that the compound only intensifies the 
meaning of the verb itself.
