[B-Greek] APOLUTRWSIS

Barry is basically correct. I'm reminded of the line I seem to remember from Lewis Carrol to the effect that when the character speaking uses a word it means exactly what he wants it to mean -- sorry, I forget the exact reference. The idea of a purchase as a figure for redemption is one figure which is used among others. I think of Re 5.9 where the four living creatures and the 24 elders sing

ACIOS EI LABEIN TO BIBLION
KAI ANOICAI TAS SFRAGIDAS AUTOU,
hOTI ESFAGE KAI HGORASAS TWi QEWi EN TWi hAIMATI SOU
EK PASHS FULHS KAI GLWSSHS KAI LAOU KAI EQNOUS

While the concept of purchase is used here (2nd sg aor ind AGORAZW), the word APOLUTRWSIS is not used.

1) There is no such as the innate meaning of a word, only its usage in context.

2) Get a good lexicon, and look it up. Better yet, look up the citations, if at
all possible, in context. That should help...
