I really don't think there is that much difference. Note part of the entry s.v. hHMETEROS in LSJ
KERDH TWN SOFWN, = hHMWN TWN SOFWN, Ar.Nu.1202; hHMETERON AUTWN [OIKODOMHMA], = hHMWN AUTWN, Pl.Grg.514b; representing an objective gen., TO hH. DEOS fear of us, Th.1.77; EIS THN hH. DIDASKALIAN Ep.Rom.15.4.

Subject: [B-Greek] HMETERA and HMWN (I John 1:3)
What is the difference between HMETERA and HMWN? For instance how would it change the meaning of the John 1:3 if John had used HMWN instead of HMETERA? In that verse what is the article before HMETERA doing there? Please help.
Thanks,
Thor Carden
