We've been discussing the merits of the UBS Reader's Edition GNT and
I've been urging the preferability of the NET Digloss for those whose
competence in Greek is at the intermediate level (isn't that most of
us?). Now that I've had my eyes -- feasted them, in fact -- upon the
new edition of the Michael Holmes's Apostolic Fathers (the Lightfoot-
Harmer-Holmes Greek-English diglot), I want to note that this is a
very attractive little book (5.25" x 7") -- suitable for Eddie Mishoe
(and others, including myself) to read while lying down. The covers
are solid and shouldn't bend or warp, and there's a nice The Greek
text with critical notes and an English version with clarifying notes
are on facing pages. What's more -- and I think this is no small
matter -- the Greek typeface is one of the most attractive and
readable that I have ever laid eyes upon (I could wish that the GNT
were available in a similarly sized and formatted edition). The
documents constituting this collection vary considerably in reading
difficulty, but quite a few are really quite simple and can be read at
sight by those who've acquired a reasonable command of GNT vocabulary.
As I see it, this book is remarkable for quality and the pricing at
more than one dealer makes it accessible to just about anyone.
