Mark Goodacre had a note yesterday in his NT Gateway Blog
(http://tinyurl.com/3azst9)
on the subject of hapaxes (or hapaces -- but how can there really
be a plural of a word that makes only a unique appearance in
literature?).
In fact however, Mark simply points a finger at Ben Zimmer's OUPblog
(Oxford Press) -- http://tinyurl.com/27ccww -- entitled
"One-Hit Wonders: From Hapax to Googlewhacks"
The phenomenon, of course, is hardly restricted to ancient tongues.
There are some fascinating English hapax(!). While any B-Greeker
will surely understand the meaning of "anthropophaginian," a word
like "kickie-wickie" might not be so self-evident.
