[B-Greek] Septuagint Lexicons

Thanks to James Spinti for helping clear the fog. Although it doesn't seem
to be the case for James, the assignment of new ISBNs for the books
Hendrickson distributes for German Bible Society (GBS=DBG) was designed to
clear up rather than create confusion. Theoretically at least, the separate
ISBNs enable book distributors and retailers who deal with a host or
publishers to keep books ordered from Hendrickson separate from those
ordered from, for example, ABS. This is, in fact, a common practice in the
case of co-published books. Sometimes the titles alone may change, sometimes
there are small internal changes (such as the replacement of British with
American English), and sometimes there are no changes at all. Yet in all
cases, it has always been our practice to assign new ISBNs for the books
that carry the Hendrickson logo. Another thing to be aware of is that
because of special co-publishing arrangements between GBS and Hendrickson,
sometimes volumes that look similar and have similar titles may in fact have
some different features, such as the wide margin editions recently released.
In this case, though, the two Septuagint lexicons are, other then their
covers (which carry the Hendrickson logo), copyright pages, and ISBNs,
identical.

I hope this helps to dispel any remaining confusion. If there are further
questions, feel free to email me at mhouse at hendrickson.com.

OK. An e-mail and a phone call later just to make sure I was correct.
This is going to be confusing, so hang on to your hats...
Up until about 2 years ago all German Bible Society (Deutsche
Bibelgesellschaft- DBG) titles were distributed in the United States by the
American Bible Society (ABS). For various reasons, they are now being
distributed by both Hendrickson and ABS. No problem in and of itself, but
for some reason I haven't been able to discover yet, Hendrickson made the
decision to attach new ISBNs to the ones they are distributing. With the new
ISBN comes a new publication date and a new listing on some bookselling
websites that don't know the ins and outs of the distribution deal.
According to the person I talked to at Hendrickson (my normal rep is on the
road), there is no difference between the two versions except the ISBN and
the publication date.
Now, here is the thing to bear in mind: All DBG titles distributed by
Hendrickson will now have a different ISBN from the ones bought directly
from DBG or through ABS, BUT THEY ARE UNCHANGED from the current editions.
That includes NA 27, UBS 4, etc.
To sum up: the two versions of Lust, et al., are the same.
HTH,
James
Who is wondering how he is going to keep his inventory straight now...

Thanks,

Dear B-Greek,
I just got an ABS catalog in the mail the other day and it mentioned a
Greek-English Lexicon of the Septuagint by Just et. al., published by UBS.
Looking on Amazon today, I noticed another lexicon, which looked almost
identical, to be published by Hendrickson (just called Lexicon of the
Septuagint) at the end of April (links below) and is a little cheaper.
Given the pictures and descriptions, they look to be identical. Does anyone
know of a difference between the two books?
Sincerely,
Michael Matsko
