Subject: [B-Greek] EATE hEWS TOUTOU (Luke 22:51)
EATE hEWS TOUTOU (Luke 22:51)
Am I right in thinking the present plural imperative EATE is directed to all
the disciples? Does it kind of mean,
“Let that be the end of it, you guys”?

Iver:
It is certainly a restraining order directed to the disciples, but I don't think this rendering
handles the hEWS TOUTOU.
I prefer to think of it as "(You disciples) let (it happen/them go) as far as this!" Jesus knew that
his arrest had to happen in order to fulfill the plan of God, and the disciples were thinking in
human terms of defending him - as usual.
