HEB. 2:9 TON DE BRACU TI PAR' AGGELOUS HLATTWMENON BLEPOMEN IHSOUN
DIA TO PAQHMA TOU QANATOU DOXHi KAI TIMHi ESTEFANWMENON, hOPWS CARITI
QEOU hUPER PANTOS GEUSHTAI QANATOU. 10 EPREPEN GAR AUTWi, DI' hON TA
PANTA KAI DI' hOU TA PANTA, POLLOUS hUIOUS EIS DOXAN AGAGONTA TON
ARCHGON THS SWTHRIAS AUTWN DIA PAQHMATWN TELEIWSAI. 11 hO TE GAR
hAGIAZWN KAI hOI hAGIAZOMENOI EX hENOS PANTES: DI' hHN AITIAN OUK
EPAISCUNETAI ADELFOUS AUTOUS KALEIN

Some attention has been focused on the structure of verse nine where
TON ... HLATTWMENON is followed by IHSOUN, suggesting a similar
pattern in verse ten AGAGONTA TON ARCHGON. Against this some have
argued that AGAGONTA should have the article TON but G.Lunemann
(Meyer's Comm. sixth ed. 1884) and Alford agree that the article is
not required. Lunemann states that without the article POLLOUS hUIOUS
EIS DOXAN AGAGONTA would function as a subordinate clause. While this
reading isn't grammatically impossible, Alford and Lunemann both
reject it on the grounds that hUIOUS in verse nine would appear to be
defining a relationship to TON ARCHGON where in the very next verse
we find a different sort of relationship OUK EPAISCUNETAI ADELFOUS
AUTOUS KALEIN. They agree that this problem isn't absolutely
insurmountable, hUIOUS might define a relationship to TWi QEWi even
if AGAGONTA is taken with TON ARCHGON.
