Your title gives some of your answer. You wouldn't or perhaps shouldn't
have a "Webster's" project.

Likewise, you probably wouldn't have a neat translation, since the way
the Greek
words would be self-categorized would likely prove to be different from simple
glossing in another language. Translation can always be done, to be sure,
but it would be trickier than might be imagined at first.

when I work with Hebrew material in Hebrew, whether commentary, lexicon, or
grammo-syntactical studies, they are different from what would be done in
a non-Hebrew language because of the different assumptions that must be
made about the competence of the audience or the choices within the
language. Hebrew-Hebrew makes certain assumptions about the
audience and that affects the way things are written.
I suspect that the same thing would happen in Greek-Greek.

On the other hand, you may be interested to know that Greek itself has a
(modern) Greek translation of LIddell-Scott.
Funny we haven't discussed this on list, or have we?,

I don't own it or have it accessible,
so I can't say what edition of LS was used or what kind of interesting
differences or redundancies may have occurred in the process of production.
That might make an interesting article, or may already have been written
somewhere, probably in a modern Greek review. I don't even remember the
approximate year of the Greek LS, it might be a hundred years old for all I can
remember. I've seen it, curiously looked through some pages, and don't
remember any specifics.
