> A Greek-English dictionary can include all the same info on synonyms and word
relations that you might expect of a monolingual dictionary.>
The difference is that a monolingual dictionary does much of this without even
trying. Synonyms and word relations occur in the process of providing the
information about the entry and when giving citations.
I particularly like the Even-Shoshan dictionary
(which is different from the EvenShoshan concordance)
in Hebrew because it tags meanings as to which historical layer of the language
a meaning belongs to. Citations are given for any attested layer.
Could Even-Shoshan be translated? Yes, but it would add clutter by needing
translations for all of the citations, and I am not sure how all of
the synonyms
would be translated efficiently. Plus, the translations of synonyms of
the entry
word would be distracting.
