OUK EPITACEIS DOULWi SOU H PAIDISKHi (TOIS EPI TON AUTON QEON
ELPIZOUSIN) EN PIKRIAi SOU, MHPOTE OU MH FOBHQHSONTAI TON EP'
AMFOTEROIS QEON.
You shall not order your slave or maid (the ones who hope in the same
God) with harshness [in your anger maybe?] lest they will no longer
fear the God who is over you both.
My question is about the section in parenthesis. I had to check a
translation before I knew what was meant. I assume that TOIS is
dative because it refers back to DOULWi and PAIDISKHi. The way it is
translated here TOIS is the subject of ELPIZOUSIN. Is this a "normal
abnormality" or is the translation wrong?
Thanks.
Bert de Haan.
