"Confidence" or "assurance" are senses cited in BDAG for hUPOSTASIS referencing its usage in the LXX of Ruth 1.12; Ps 38.8; Ezk 19.5. You might check the NETS on thes passages.

  Jeffrey,
I assume you are confused by my awkward translation.
I didn't want to add too many words that weren't in the Greek manuscript.
Here's the same verse in the NIV
^14 We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the
confidence we had at first
hUPOSTASIS often carries the idea of existence or substance.
I thought here it might refer to Jesus as creator rather than the basis
of our confidence.
Sincerely,
Michael Abernathy

Therefore, O faithful Christian, search for truth, hear truth,
learn truth, love truth, speak the truth, hold the truth,
defend the truth till death.
