I have searched 157 references to PROSTATES in Perseus Tuft, and it
certainly was used by many authors. The only christian reference I
have found is the following:
“assist our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church in Cenchrea...for
she has been a great help [succourer, PROSTATIS προστάτις ]
to many people, including me.” (Romans 16:2).
Lucian used the term in relation to Peregrinus, the one time
Christian impersonator. He wrote it as PROSTATHN ροστάτην in
paragraph 11 of the Passing of Peregrinus.
Could someone tell me if there are any Christian references to these
terms in the first 350 years?
Regards
Jonathan
P.S UTF-8 definitely on!
