[B-Greek] Geographical locations of early NT mss

Hello All:
In response to this thought, L.D. Twilley in his small volume entitled,
The Origin and Transmission of the New Testament (Edinburgh: Oliver and
Boyd, 1957) has a pull-out map that more or less does this very thing
(with a select group of manuscripts). The map is entitled "Geographical
Distribution of Local Texts" and falls at the end of the volume.
However, this actual process is open to all kinds of criticism. To
highlight a few potential concerns... it is often impossible to
determine manuscript provenance (keeping in mind that place of discovery
and place of provenance may be entirely different); the entire issue of
"local texts" is a growing point of contention in textual criticism and
can no longer be held as a basic assumption (thus possibly minimizing
the importance of geographical provenance); even if one accepts the more
traditional local text theories, these categories are broad enough so as
to provide little assistance in more specifically "pin pointing"
geographical provenance; given the "mixed" textual nature of many
manuscripts, multiple locations of provenance could theoretically be
suggested in light of the "interpreted evidence"; and both textual
features (such as scribal custom, orthography, itacism etc) and
extra-textual features (such as book order, binding process, lections
etc) often prove to be, once again, inconclusive of manuscript
provenance.
Though all this doesn't mean one should not make the attempt to assess
geographical provenance when looking at a manuscript...
Warm Regards;
Kent

I second that request. It would be a great reference resource to have a
map
of the ancient world showing virtual pins at locations that were
probable
provenances for individual biblical or other related mss. Thus if two or
more locations were proposed for a ms it could have (?) next to each
proposed location. A ms list could provide links to versions of the map
that
highlighted the location(s) of each ms. Even broad regions could be
indicated for a ms if the provenance is only specifiable at that level.

I was wondering if anyone on the forum could direct me to a resource
that
documents the geographical dispersion of the New Testament mss during
the
earliest years.
Thank you
