[B-Greek] Question about Abbott-Smith

I have never understood why there is not a copy of Abbott-Smith's 1922 'A Manual Greek Lexicon of the New Testament' available on Google Books or on Textkit or some other venue. It is my understanding that all books printed before 1923 are not subject to copyright laws. The 1998 extension of the copyright law (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonny_Bono_Copyright_Term_Extension_Act) made it certain than no new works would enter into the public domain until 95 years from 1923, i.e. 2018. So, the death of the author is a mute point (in the US), unless the book int question did not have its copywright renewed correctly (29 years after the print date through 1963 or reprinted(?) during that time. It is my understanding, that is the reason why some of the Loeb Classical Library works (printed after 1923) are not under copyright, e.g. Polybius. The original US version of Abbott-Smith was printed in 1922 by Charles Scribner's Sons, NY. There were many reprints after 1922. The best site I have seen on copyright laws is http://www.copyright.cornell.edu/public_domain. There is a copy of the 1922 version available on AbeBooks for about $50 http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=469450028&searchurl=an%3Dabbott-smith%26kn%3Dmanual%2Bgreek%2Blexicon%26sts%3Dt%26x%3D0%26y%3D0. Abbott-Smith Contains about 40% of LXX (the Septuagint or Greek Old Testament) vocabulary. For those who are intersted in promoting freeware and free publications, this would be a good start to an online LXX lexicon. (Of course, nothing can replace Lust's lexicon and the new NETS English translation). Perhaps an Abbott-Smith project is in order, just as the Funk Hellenistic Grammar was accomplished. If anyone starts such a project, count me in. Louis Sorenson b-greek-request at lists.ibiblio.org Message: 28Date: Thu, 31 Jan 2008 12:19:15 -0800 (PST)From: 'Kevin W.
