Bert, John,
In other to configure Windows XP for using Unicode Greek text, do the
following:
1. Control Panel / Regional and Language Options / Languages / Details /
Add:
Input language: Greek, Keyboard layout: Greek Polytonic.
Apply changes
2. Control Panel / Regional and Language Options / Languages / Details /
Language Bar:
Show the language bar on the desktop
Close all windows
3. From the language bar choose EL Greek. Now you can write in Greek in ANY
software you are using. (Word, Outlook Express, etc)
4. When using Word, it is recommended to use Palatino Lynotype font. Arial
is not appropriate because it has not diacritical glyphs.
Palatino Lynotype font is widely use in Greece, as Dr. Nikolaos Adamou has
mentioned in his email.
5. When you are sending email to the B-Greek list, the font you use is
irrelevant because the b-Greek list uses plain text. That means the text you
receive through the list has no format at all.
If you type Unicode text in Outlook Express, after pressing "send" it will
ask you for the type of Encoding you want to use. Choose Unicode.
In order to correctly read the messages you receive, change the font that
Outlook Express uses by default:
Tools / Options / Read / Fonts /
Proportional Font: Palatyno Lynotype, or another
Encoding: Unicode UTF-8
7. If you are using webmail, I recomend using Gmail. It deals perfectly with
Unicode. Yahoo does not work very well with it, but someone has mentioned
that Yahoo Beta does.
6. The following is a list of key combinations to type in Unicode Greek
using an English keyboard. It might differ between diferente keyboards.
ά type ;a
ὰ type ]a
ᾶ type [a
ἀ type 'a
ἁ type "a
ἄ type /a
ἅ type ?a
ἂ type \a
ἃ type |a
ἆ type =a
ἇ type +a
ᾳ type {a
ᾀ type {ctrl} {alt} ;a
ᾲ type {ctrl} {alt} ]a
ᾷ type {ctrl} {alt} [a
and so on
I hope this is useful.
In Christ,
Roman Caceres

Dear Bert,
yes, it would appear that keyman now no longer offers the free home-edition.
If for some reason the solution below does not work well for you yudit
which is free, see www.yudit.org, is a text editor that allows you to
input in many different languages, includes several typing in Greek
options, however one would have to copy and paste from yudit into an
email. Yudit can be adjusted so that you use whatever keys to type with.
Regards
John
