I would like to make some brief comments,
with the hope that I have understood well the subject of the discussion.

1) There is no need of a masculine word instead of zoe,
since the word under discussion (zoe) is a noon and not a pronoun or an adjective.
Something similar occurs with the famous phrase "God is love," θεός αγάπη εστιν

2) So, the text doesn't say that the "spirit is alive", but that the "spirit is life".

3) I think that the "spirit" here mentioned is not the spirit of a person,
namely, his mental disposition, but the holy spirit, or the spirit of God,
as it is clearly mentioned in the context (see verses 9, 11, 14).

4) Thus, the spirit of God is life for the believer,
and the one who lives according to the spirit of God (en pnevmati)
and not according to his flesh (en sarki), will enjoy resurrection and life (verse 11).

I hope I haven't made many boring repetitions.
