I could not agree more.  I found the entire direction of that part of the 
discussion deeply offensive, not personally, but from the perspective (!) of 
impropriety.  The goal is to discuss the language and how it is to be 
understood, and to allow people to be informed of the entire range of 
opinions, which the earlier part of the thread was doing nicely.

Perhaps we should use a more etymological definition of scholar, as simply 
one who has attended the schola, or the equivalent thereof...
