[B-Greek] what about Philo?

Hi Jeffrey,

<So, Philo or Apostolic
Fathers? And which texts?>

I haven't had much luck with Philo.  He seems real hard to
me and not worth the effort.

The easiest texts from the Apostolic Fathers are

1.  Didache
2.  Hermas
3. 2 Clement

The best texts from the Apostolic Fathers are

1. Epistle to Diognetus
2.  Ignatius (Romans is the best)
3. 2 Clement

Since 2 Clement made both lists, I'd start there.
Martyrdom of Polycarp is also fairly easy and fairly
interesting.

Blessings in your readings.

I just realized that I have electronic Greek texts of a few authors. One is
the Apostolic fathers (eds. by Lightfoot, Lake, and Holmes) and another is
Philo (I don't know which texts). I thought I would try to get into them,
but since I would be too tempted to merely double-click on a word I'm not
familiar with, I'm going to actually print out a section at a time to read
through. But my question is, is there an advantage to either one, or to a
certain portion of one, of these texts from the point of view of learning to
read Koine Greek? I'm not very concerned about exegesis or getting all the
details right at this point; I'm trying to learn to read and understand with
proficiency, and I'm not very familiar with either of these two, so my mind
won't be telling me what it should already mean. So, Philo or Apostolic
Fathers? And which texts?
