Ken,

Would this be helpful:
Analyzing Discourse: A Manual of Basic Concepts
by Robert Dooley and Stephen H. Levinsohn
SIL International, 2001
Price: $20.95
http://www.eisenbrauns.com/item/DOOANALYZ

Description:
Analyzing Discourse is an introduction to discourse analysis for
linguistic field workers. It is practical, addressing issues commonly
confronted by field linguists. Rather than applying a rigid theory or
surveying a variety of approaches, it provides a methodology that has
been refined over years of use. The material follows a functional and
cognitive approach that seems to be a good approximation of how
discourse is actually produced and understood.

Since the aim of the manual is introductory rather than comprehensive,
most chapters are relatively short, and the whole can be covered in
fifteen classroom hours. References are provided for further reading on
the topics discussed. The manual can be used individually or in group
sessions, such as in a formal course or a linguistic seminar. In a group
setting, concepts can be illustrated by examining further texts than
those provided in the manual.

Or, perhaps this one:

Discourse Features of New Testament Greek: A Coursebook on the
Information Structure of New Testament Greek
by Stephen H. Levinsohn
2d edition
SIL International, 2000
$33.50
http://www.eisenbrauns.com/item/LEVDISCOU

Description:
Dr. Levinsohn, an expert in both New Testament Greek and discourse
analysis, has written this coursebook for use in classroom lectures and
discussion groups, as well as for self-instruction. He draws on his
research and his experience in seminars, teach-ins, and courses as he
describes discourse features that he and other researchers have studied
in depth. The seventeen chapters cover topics such as constituent order,
sentence conjunctions, patterns of reference, backgrounding and
highlighting, and reporting conversations. Discourse features are
illustrated from passages of the New Testament. Most sections include
review questions to assist the student in applying the principles.

Subject: [B-Greek] Books on analyzing Greek text (text linguistics?)

I'm looking for a good intro book on analyzing the structure and
syntax of a passage for the purpose of exegesis. Richard Erickson's
book on exegesis talks about it some but not enough. I think this area
is called text linguistics. I'm reading a book that I thought was in
this area, Style and Discourse, by Nida, et al, but it is not showing me
what I am looking for. Any suggestions for a book? Thanks.

Ken
