[B-Greek] "Why do we make pastors translate?"

The fellows I spend quality time with generally are glad to be able to use
their language training and skills in sermon preparation and study. That
being said, quite a number also saw no practical reason to spend their time
in learning something they didn't see having a direct bearing on their
calling.

Most people today have difficulty staying focused on a message that
requires following a line of reasoning. We have become a "one-liner"
society, wanting witty quips instead of a carefully prepared treatise.
More's the pity.

It seems to me that the place one places on the exposition of the NT has a
lot to do with how sees the importance of Greek study. Especially in this
age of rapidly multiplying translations/paraphrases/good guesses, it would
seem that anyone wanting to have a decent basis for comparison would want to
acquire some kind of Greek tools to help him.

  blessings,

  Gene Baker
