Greetings,

I am a new member of B-Greek and am writing to seek advice on how to
progress from studying “first-year” grammar to reading the New Testament, and
perhaps the Church Fathers, in Greek.

My
background: I just finished working through Clayton Croy’s “A Primer of
Biblical Greek” (just over half in an online class, the rest on my
own). At this point, I’m studying independently but may have a study
partner/mentor in the summer.

It would be great to get feedback on two options I’m considering.
Hi I actually used Mounce 2 x and then worked through Machen. Now, I'm using
Dana Mantey which is an older syntax intermediate text book. Honestly, this
is a very hard thing to learn. Even after going through 3 first year grammars
over a four year span, I still don't know many forms when I see them,
there's just so many. I'm definitely grasping how to interpret verses much better,
but, that said, it's hard. I think the best thing to do, is keep the vocab
growing, my goal is 10 and above, keep translating, with help from where you
can, and do this, at least every other day, if not every day. At least 20 - 30
min. My problem was, I never stuck to this, and then, I kept forgetting
forms, paradigms and so forth.
I hope I'm not scaring you, but this is how it's been for me. But, I'm
pressing forward. And by God's grace getting things, that I only dreamed about in
the first year books.

The Decker book is a great choice. But go where he sends you, like to the
other grammars when translating. You'll see what I mean when you do the book.
