Dear friends,
In John 5:44 we find the words, "THOU MONOU THEOU". "MONOU" is an adjective
according to what I can see, but translations are very confusing at this
point. Some use "MONOU" as an adverb: ". that cometh from God only"
modifying a supposed elliptic verb "to come". Others use it as an adjective,
referring to God: ". from the only God".
Luther followed the first alternative:
"die von Gott allein ist"
The TNIV the second:
"that comes from the only God?"
Is there more than one possible option, or is there only one right option?
Thank you!
