It may be of interest to note that the two major Catholic versions of Luk 18:14
have opted for exclusiveness rather than comparative degree, and they can hardly
be based on a reformed reading, unless indirectly through a Greek lexicon.
NJB: This man, I tell you, went home again justified; the other did not.
NAB: I tell you, the latter went home justified, not the former.
We find the comparative idea in KJV:
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified [rather] than the other.
However, KJV is translating a different text which has H, not PARA, and it is
not comparative in terms of more or less righteous, but in terms of one person
or the other being justified.
