Greetings to the list. I haven't written since the summer, but I have been
following most of the discussions. Something about teaching and having a new
baby really takes up your time.

Please reply strictly off-list, since this issue is beyond the parameters of
B-Greek, but I know of no better group of people to respond to my questions.
What would you say are guidelines or parameters for a preaching using NT
Greek (or Hebrew, because it's the same issue) in a sermon, almost always
with an audience who has no education in biblical languages? Related to this
is, what is the value of learning Greek (and Hebrew) for the different
purposes of studying and preaching? And a third question is, what is the
value of teaching a few years of Greek and Hebrew to seminarians? I have my
own opinions on the matter (some of which have surfaced in the list, I'm
sure), but I really wanted to hear what other people have to say, especially
those who have been serving in ministry.
