George,
Yes, that's something that crossed my mind as well, but then I can't
figure how to make sense of it in context. δ' D' without a vowel
following it? That also came to mind, but...
I would be tempted to say "Nilos (or Neilos) the marble-worker"
(deformation of μαρμαράριος, MARMARARIOS?), but again it's a shot in the
dark.
