The term "born again" dates at least to the time of John Wycliffe who
translated 
(from the Latin) rendered Jn 3.1-7<<

Very good.  Earlier I cited Luther, here's Jerome:

"natus fuerit denuo..."

So it looks like "again" is the preferred translation.
