I'm not going to take the time to unpack everything wrong with your
theories on this, and I don't think these messages are really kosher for
this list anyway. I will observe that I think all the time and investment
in the original languages has been worth it for me. Some of it is
unquantifiable -- it just feels right to read something in the language in
which it was written. There are other more objective reasons to which most
on this list agree, or they wouldn't be studying the languages and want to
get better at them. And now, I've got some Coptic possessives to nail
down...
