It doesn't translate מַעַל (ma’al) as "faith." It translates מַעַל (ma’al) as "breaking faith."

Subject: [B-Greek] Num 5.6, in the Hebrew (Pietersma, Buth, Conrad, etc.)
I'm looking for the solution from the Hebrew behind the Greek/LXX (is the the right site to ask a Hebrew question? I don't know Hebrew at all.)
Notice the NET translation:
5:5 Then the Lord spoke to Moses:
5:6 “Tell the Israelites, ‘When a man or a woman commits any sin that people commit, thereby breaking faith with the Lord, and that person is found guilty...
NET Footnote
tn The verb is מַעַל (ma’al),
which means to “defraud, violate, trespass against,” or “to deal
treacherously, do an act of treachery.” In doing any sin that people
do, the guilty have been unfaithful to the Lord, and therefore must bring him a sacrifice.
I'm just not understanding why the NET translates ma'al here with 'faith' or being unfaithful. Does ma'al mean that there was an antecedent "faith" that was broken in the sense that Abram had "faith" in the Lord? What is the relationship between ma'al and 'aman (Gen 15.6)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
