Michael egrapse:
<The Greek text is according to a so-called Adamantius' Dialogue Against
Marcion,
cited from Tischendorf's Critical Apparatus. I think this "Adamantius" was
quoting what Marcion had supposedly said when he intentionally distorted
Matthew 5:17.>
Hi, Michael,
It may be that Marcion was not so much intentionally distorting Mt 5:17 as he
was
paraphrasing Romans 10:4
τέλος γὰρ νόμου Χριστὸς εἰς δικαιοσύνην παντὶ τῷ πιστεύοντι.
TELOS GAR NOMOU CRISTOW EIS DIKAIOSUNHN TWi PISTEUONTI
wherein Paul himself may be quoting a logion of Jesus in which TELOS means
destruction as much as fulfillment.
Harnack said that Marcion was the only Christian ever to understand Paul, even
if he misunderstood him.

Subject: [B-Greek] Marcion on Matthew 5:17
The Greek text of Marcion's commentary on Matthew 5:17 states,
νόμ. ἀλλὰ καταλῦσαι
[TOUTO hOI IOUDAISTAI ERGANAN], TO OUK HLTHON KATALUSAI TON NOMON ALLA PLEROSAI.
OUK hOUTOS DE EIPEN hO XRISTOS, LEGEI GAR. OUK HLTHON PLEROSAI TON NOMON ALLA
KATALUSAI.
I was wondering what the translation of the bracketed [] section is, i.e. "TOUTO
hOI IOUDAISATAI ERGANAN."
Here is my translation excluding the portion in question.
[TOUTO hOI IOUDAISTAI ERGANAN.] He who did not come to destroy the Law but
rather to fulfill. But, Jesus Christ did not say in thus manner/ so. For, he
declared, "I did not come to fulfill the Law, but rather, to destroy."
If someone could proof-read my translation and tell me what is incorrect, I
would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
