Are you suggesting that "Paul" is stating that "she" shall be preserved during 
childbirth if "they" continue in faith ...?  Of course, the "she" could be 
simply the genus "woman."  It's an interesting problem.  I don't know as there 
is a solution which would be generally acceptable, but that isn't unusual in 
virtually any passage.

What of the option of reading this as a woman's being preserved throughout the 
process of childbirth?  I haven't seen that mentioned yet, though it seems a 
distinct possibility.  I recall that several years ago childbirth was cited as 
remaining the leading cause of death for women aged 19-26, even in this day and 
age.
