Hello,

Various English translations render the word GUNAIKARIA in 2 Timothy 3:6 as
women,
little women,
silly women,
weak women,
women (used derogatorily),
etc.

Further, some commentators say that the word applies figuratively to both genders, not only to women.

My questions are:
1. What significance is attached to the suffix -ARIA ? In what sense might it mean "little, weak, silly, derogatory, etc"?
2. Is there any evidence in the usage elsewhere of GUNAIKARIA to suggest that it is or isn't applicable to both sexes?
3. If in fact GUNAIKARIA is used of men, what does it mean then?

I looked and failed to find GUNAIKARIA on ibiblio and b-greek. If it already exists there, I missed it.

Thank you!

Ted Shoemaker
