I've always understood it simply as going back to the previous clause:
presenting himself as an example in good works, for example, in teaching, etc.

The grammar of the above passage is rather awkward and unclear. Does any one
know how the words from EN THi DIDASKALIAi to AKTAGNWSTON are related to the
preceding words?
