Hi Eddie,
I have a Mac and use Word also (Word 2004 for Mac), and I happen to
have the same font, though I don't use it much. When you set your
System Preferences to enable the Keyboard Viewer, it shows you use the
v to make final sigma in the "Greek" font--if you are using a Greek
keyboard mapping, such as the virtual Greek one from Tyndale House.
However, when I try using this font with a Greek keyboard, Word
switches to a different Greek font I have, Metrolox. It appears the
"Greek" font works better with a U.S. keyboard. When I try using the v
for final sigma with the U.S. keyboard in this font, though, it
doesn't work: it makes a single quote mark instead.
I discovered, though, that you can make the final sigma in this font
with the Insert menu in Word. Go to Insert, then Symbol. A window
opens showing the characters for the "Greek" font. The final sigma is
at the upper left of the chart next to the combined smooth breathing
and acute accent character. Click on the final sigma character and
then click the Insert button in this window. This works to put the
final sigma into your text just fine. As this is a bit clumsy, though,
if you use the "Greek" font often in Word, I suggest you use the
Shortcut Key feature in the Insert Symbol window to set up a keyboard
shortcut for final sigma.
Hope this helps. Myself, I prefer to use fonts that play nice with a
Greek keyboard, as it's simpler to write Greek that way.
Speaking of Greek fonts, list members may not know about the wonderful
free collections for download from the Greek Font Society (Εταιρεία
Ελληνικών
Τυπογραφικών Στοιχείων), available online at
http://www.greekfontsociety.gr/pages/en_typefaces1.html. Lots of cool
ones there to play with. (You can also read their pages in Modern
Greek if you prefer by clicking on the Greek flag icon.) There is also
the Cardo Unicode font from Tyndale House in their Greek and Hebrew
font and keyboard kit, a great all-round font that does both Greek,
Hebrew, and transliteration, free online at
http://www.tyndale.cam.ac.uk/index.php?page=unicode.
Still another archive with a variety of Greek Unicode fonts is
available here: http://gainsford.tripod.com/fonts_unicode.htm
Enjoy,
