Hi, Dave,

Good point.  I have seen a few text books that recommend pronouncing alpha as 
"ar" (and omega as "or."  It does seem that a trace of a rho can appear.

Your question raises a question of how many times you have to repeat a word in 
real communication before it becomes internalized.  καλῶς (KALWS), along with a 
few others, ERRWSO, CAIRE, are among the first to get there.
