Friends:
In addition to the other works mentioned I would add:
Francis H. Fobes, Philosophical Greek: An Introduction (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1957).
Comments on other works:
Whitacre's A Patristic Greek Reader is very accessible to readers of the NT--a very full, same-page list of annotations; less full is Hale's Let's Read Greek, but some of Hale's selections are fun to read. In a recent issue of the journal The American Scholar, there was an article arguing that readers such as those Whitacre and Hale provide stimulate linguistic fluency.
Some thoughts on great readers:
1. Great readers have great selections of intrinsic merit and interest. If the selections aren't interesting or fun, will we persist in reading them?
2. They have a variety in their selections.
3. They offer helps -- for me that probably means same-page vocabularies and some notes on grammar. The notes have ease of reference.
4. Great readers have good dictionaries -- so you can look up anything you have questions about.
5. Great readers have great bindings (ones that will lie flat) -- a defect in my copy of Hale's Let's Read Greek.
Anyone creating one these days?
Best wishes,

As usual, hotmail trashed my list with bullets. Here is a resend. Most
ave links, which hotmail may also rip out. I'll create a web page for
his list very soon at
ttp;//www.letsreadgreek.com/resources/gradedreaders.htm
Here is a list of Graded Greek readers which I have
uickly put together. if you have any more to add, let me know. i would
ike to add them. I think the Reader's Greek New Testaments should also
e added, even though they are not graded. The Graded reader has found a
new life, and many new works are coming out in this format. Those who
ave not looked at Geoffrey Steadman's books should take a look at them.
The Tablet of Cebes is associated often with the works of Epictetus.
Find any more? Drop me a note.
