Whenever "every translation" has something, and I come up with something 
different, I try to see where I have gone wrong.  In this case, EI is not 
used conditionally, but as an indirect question dependent on the imperative, 
lit. "Test yourselves whether you are in the faith" (see KJV, among other 
translations).  Those translations which supply "to see" are simply trying 
to smooth it out a bit in modern English.
