For what it's worth, I DO think the Rijksbaron book is precisely what
serious students of the Greek verb ought to be reading before and above
other accounts of how the ancient Greek verb functions. It is an inexpensive
(less than $20), relatively short paperback presentation covering the
essentials of how the Greek verb works. Although it focuses on the
Classical Attic Greek verb, what it says about the forms and functions
of the verb are, I think, accurate with regard to the Koine Greek verb
as well.
