Just a thought:
If you move on to 1:8 I think the clue is that Epaphras was a messenger (at
least of sorts). He told Paul of the Colossians' love for him. KAI as the
connection (in the second position "also") leads me to beleive that what he
told the Colossians was EUCARISOUMEN (1:3)
