I received the answer from Carl just in time before leaving for a weekend
retreat. Thank you, Carl. If there were other answers I will know after
posting this mail. In the case there are, thank yuo to everybody.
I would like to ask a more specific question (I need it no more for my paper
I had, bud I am curios). Studiing the syntax I of the sentence I have still
problems to understand fully the function of AN in the protasis hEWS AN
PARELQHi... (the same in hEWS AN ... GENHTAI).
hEWS is a time conjuction giving a time condition: until...
AN is a particle used for express option.
Has AN a special function in the connection with hEWS or it is only
cumulative?
My grammar ilustrates the use of hEWS with "hEWS ESTI KAIROS,..." If I
understand it correctly, then it is ok to say:
hEWS PARERCETAI hO OURANOS KAI hE GH,... (without AN and using praesent
indicative).
If it is legal, what is the difference?
With respect,
Blaho
