        Inclusive language could have been used in either case among informed
20th century folk, but probably would have lost its force in the first century
hellenistic milieu. My apologies if I came across (or come across) with sexist
implications -- I only intended to render Paul's point of contrast as starkly
as possible (and exposed myself thereby, with apologies). Like most men
exposed to rigorous pastoral training in a post-liberal seminary, I am a
recovering sexist <g>, some might even say a feminist (a label I gladly accept
when applied by those with the privilege of doing so, i.e., women.

A word is not a crystal, transparent and unchanging;
it is the skin of living thought and changes from day
to day as does the air around us. - Oliver Wendell Holmes
