be war, friend, as chaucer would say, of ever speaking re any lang. of 'the
word for x'. 99% of time such a statement will have been quite false. speak of
a dozen or so greek words for sentence, not not as if they had a word that
could be called 'the word for ... '. if 'the word for x is y' it will have
been likely that y will have been the only term available for some highly
technical phenomenon and even then another 'word' in the looser sense of
circumlocution will often have been apropos.

this advice comes off list just between us.

susan and i were so pleased to have you as our guest and look forward to next
time. do phone from time to time, when it's convenient, and plan to visit
again.
