A propos the question of how "grammatical" koine is, I want to point out
that the answer differs from writer to writer. THis point, incidentally,
is one that is often obscured in translation, and it is one of the treats
of reading Greek to be able to recognize distinctive voices. It is true,
too, that there are non-Christian texts in the koine that also reveal
varying degrees of skill on the part of their writers. So, in some ways,
to talk of koine is like talking about "late 20th century English"--the
phrase covers lots of territory.
