Bill Warren suggested an interesting twist on this at supper tonight over a
Cajun Crawfish platter - he says that PISTIS in the LXX and other Jewish
literature seems to have the meaning "loyalty"; this could mean that
faith/faithfulness are simply two different aspects of loyalty: we believe
in him, and we are committed to him.
This would cut down the number of possible interpretations significantly:
1. "through the loyalty of Jesus Christ (to us)"
2. "through loyalty to Jesus Christ"
This sure sounded good at the time - then again, after a Cajun Crawfish
platter and an evening of very pleasant fellowship, just about anything
starts to sound good ;->
