Since you've already received one recommendation for a German title
(Pesch), I would blance that with one of the best in English (if not the
best, though that's a difficult and subjective judgment!): Robert Gundry's
*Mark: A Commentary on His Apology for the Cross* (Grand Rapids, MI, US:
Eerdmans, 1993), lv + 1069 pgs., ISBN 0-8028-3698-4.

I think the introduction is almost worth the price of the book! The
commentary proper is well written and the small print sections interact
with an amazing variety of proposals and writers on Mark. He does tend to
find a few too many grammatical subtleties in minor points of grammar, but
overall, it's hard to find a more thoughtful discussion of Mark.
