Thes use of the dative may simply be reflective of a Hebrew/Aramaic idiom. One of the ways
which Hebrew and Aramaic express the genitive is to attach the preposition "to" (or
"belonging to") before the pronoun. Thus, in Hebrew you would have "a name to him" meaning
"his name" or "a name of his". This preposition + pronoun would be translated into Greek
by a simple dative.
