While I cannot think of a volume that lists household items in a single category; I believe the Louw-Nida Lexicon was made with your concerns specifically in mind. For instance, for PINAX, Louw-Nida reads:

6.134 PINAX, AKOS f: a relatively flat, large dish—‘plate platter.’ (Greek verse omitted because I'm lazy...‘she said, Give me here the head of John the Baptist on a plate’ Mt 14.8.

6.135 PAROYIS, IDOS f: a relatively flat dish, probably somewhat smaller than a PINAX (6.134)—‘plate, dish.’ ... ‘you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish’ Mt 23.25. In this one NT context in which PAROYIS occurs, it seems to refer to any kind of plate or dish, though in contexts outside the NT, PAROYIS is often employed to refer to a dish used for serving certain choice foods and delicacies.

The concerns of translators are brought to the fore with Louw-Nida and while there may not be a neat categorization of household items, it is descriptive enough to give translators the kind of information to translate into other languages.

Subject: [b-greek] household items vocabulary

Does anyone know of a reference work that matches NT Greek vocabulary to
descriptions of household items in Hellenistic Jewish society (or
Graeco-Roman for that matter)? For instance, when John the Baptist's head
is presented on a PINAX (Mt 14:8), what does a PINAX look like? What is it
made out of? What did the KATHEDRA a pigeon-seller sat on look like (Mt
21:12)? Did it have a back? Did it have a solid or woven seat?

I was asked a slew of such questions recently in relation to a Bible
translation project for a language group in southern Ethiopia. I couldn't
think of a source that would focus on these 'homely' issues. Any
suggestions?
