Well, that's a good idea too. I wouldn't agree that the differences are less
than people make of them, as I once spent a rather hideous year writing a
dissertation on the differences, but when learning for fun, the differences
wouldn't be such an issue.
I admit my only reason for choosing Attic first was bias as I myself was
taught that way, and taught others that way. I think there are good reasons,
but I'll admit I am biased. I would still suggest that Lysias and Xenophon
are easier than Homer for a beginner - but that's just my view.
The poetry and architectural structure are indeed memory spurs, but the
purpose is not to recite or remember the text, but rather to learn it!
